Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Art Deco sterling silver compact from 1930 functions as a stylish vanity accessory for daily use. The square piece has a silver colour and features an engine-turned guilloche surface paired with a stepped geometric motif, a hinged lid, and a small push-button catch visible on the side. The exterior shows minor signs of age, use, and a few small marks across the metal surface. Inside, the container includes a mirror and a compartment designed to hold pressed powder. Birmingham hallmarks identify the maker as Mappin & Webb from 1934. Measuring 5 cm high and 5 cm wide, the compact sits compactly on a bedside table, dressing table, or vanity surface as a functional decorative item. It brings period glamour to a bedroom scheme while holding small daily items or serving purely as a display collectible in a modern interior.

FAQs

Art Deco compacts from the 1920s and 1930s are characterised by geometric patterns, engine-turned guilloche engraving, and streamlined forms reflecting modern industrial aesthetics.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver or silver plate, often accented with enamel, mother-of-pearl, or synthetic materials such as Bakelite.

Authenticity can be verified by checking for official hallmarks indicating silver purity, maker marks, push-button mechanisms, and characteristic geometric ornamentation.

Small silver accessories can be styled atop a dressing table tray, displayed inside a glass specimen cabinet, or positioned on a bedside table as decorative accents.

Silver pieces should be lightly buffed with a soft microfibre cloth designed for silver polish, stored in low-humidity environments, and kept clear of direct liquids to prevent oxidisation.
