Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian sterling silver visiting card case dates from 1885 and comes with its original presentation box. The rectangular case has a hinged lid with bright-cut floral and foliate engraving over the body, alongside an engraved ivy leaf pattern and a central monogrammed cartouche. The exterior shows the inscribed name Mrs Blackburn, Hatfield House, South Lowestoft. The card case rests inside a fitted presentation box lined in purple velvet and finished with dark leather exteriors, metal hinges, and interior brass hardware. Both the leather box and the silver case remain in very good original condition. The case measures 9.5 cm high and 6.3 cm wide. In a modern home, this piece suits an office desk or a library table as a decorative desk accessory or a display item. It works well placed alongside other antique desk items or as part of a collection of nineteenth-century silverwork.

During the Victorian era, visiting or calling card cases were carried to protect small printed social cards, which were left as a formal gesture when making social calls.

Victorian card cases were constructed using sterling silver, tortoiseshell, mother-of-pearl, or carved wood, often lined with velvet or silk inside a leather fitted case.

Authentic British sterling silver from this era is identified by a series of stamped hallmarks, including the lion passant for silver purity, a makers mark, a town mark, and a date letter.

An antique card case can be placed on an office desk or bookshelf as a decorative curio, displayed inside a glass dome, or used to hold contemporary business cards.

Preserve sterling silver by wiping it gently with a dedicated silver polishing cloth, avoiding abrasive compounds or chemical liquid dips that could damage fine surface engraving.
