FAQs

1920s British oak lighting reflects a transition from Arts and Crafts hand-craftsmanship into early Art Deco geometric forms. These pieces prioritize clear timber grain, clean faceted carving, and functional simplicity over excessive surface ornamentation.

These lamps were primarily crafted from solid English or European oak, often finished with wax or shellac. Mechanical components typically featured solid brass bayonet bulb holders and surface-mounted cord outlets.

Authentic pieces display natural timber aging, original joinery methods, and characteristic geometric or faceted turnings. Look for period-appropriate brass fittings and signs of hand-finished woodworking around the base edges.

Pair the lamp base with a neutral linen or drum shade to highlight the timbers natural tone. It functions well on a sideboard, desk, or bedside table alongside modern or contemporary accessories.

Dust the wood regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually to protect the original finish. Ensure all electrical wiring is tested and updated by a certified electrician to meet current electrical standards.
