Art Deco silver compacts emerged during the 1920s to 1950s as portable vanity accessories designed to hold face powder, reflecting the geometric lines and streamlined aesthetics of the era.

Mid-century silver compacts were typically crafted from sterling silver using engine-turning techniques to cut precise geometric patterns, often incorporating internal mirrors and gilt interiors.

Authentic British sterling silver compacts feature official hallmarks, including the lion passant fineness mark, a town mark such as the Birmingham anchor, a date letter, and a makers mark.

A silver compact can be displayed open or closed on a bedroom vanity tray, bathroom counter, or dresser alongside crystal glass bottles to introduce tactile metallic detail.

Maintain silver compacts by wiping gently with a soft microfibre silver polishing cloth, avoiding liquid cleaners or submersion that could compromise internal mirror backings or catches.
