Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A silver-mounted glass decanter is a vessel designed for holding and serving liquids, constructed from hand-blown or cut glass and fitted with a sterling silver collar, mount, or spout. Popular from the 19th through early 20th centuries, these pieces combined functional liquid containment with precious metal metallurgy.

These vessels were created by shaping glass through blowing or moulding techniques, after which decorative glass elements like applied leaves or prunts were fused to the hot body. A sterling silver collar was separately crafted, hallmarked by an assay office, and secured to the glass neck using specialist plaster or cement adhesives.

Authentic British silver mounts feature a series of official hallmarks stamped into the metal, including a makers mark, a town mark such as the Birmingham anchor, a metal purity mark like the lion passant for sterling silver, and a date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

Glass decanters can be styled as functional accessories on a wooden sideboard, curated within a glass display cabinet, or arranged on a brass drinks trolley alongside antique glassware. Grouping vessels of varying heights and coloured glass accents creates visual structure.

Clean the interior using warm water mixed with mild soap and non-abrasive cleaning beads, avoiding extreme temperature shifts that cause thermal shock. The sterling silver collar should be polished gently with a silver-specific cloth, ensuring chemical cleaners do not make contact with the glass adhesive.
