This 1930 Victorian Revival floor-standing lantern light is constructed from brass and glass with a polished brass finish and a golden colour. The tall fixture comprises a hexagonal glass enclosure with tapered panels inside a brass frame, finished with a decorative ventilated crown, a small finial at the very top, and an internal bulb. The upper lantern sits on a long turned central column with a tapered lower section, which meets a stepped circular base supported by three small paw feet. The height is adjustable between 189 cm and 205 cm, with a width of 40 cm and a depth of 40 cm, and it includes 2.2 metres of cable. In a contemporary home, this floor lamp suits a study, library, or hallway, functioning effectively to illuminate an empty corner or seating area. It provides a distinct period accent within traditional interior schemes.

Floor-standing lantern lamps adapted late nineteenth-century municipal street lighting designs for indoor domestic use, gaining popularity during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. They combined functional ambient illumination with decorative metalwork modelled after gas post lamps.

These fixtures are typically constructed from cast or spun brass paired with clear, bevelled, or leaded glass panels. The internal structure often incorporates heavy iron or lead weighting within the base to ensure stability.

Authentic period pieces feature heavy cast components, threaded joins, and hand-soldered glass frames rather than uniform stamped metal. Older examples frequently show historical rewiring or conversions from earlier gas or oil fittings.

Position the lantern in an empty corner, entryway, or beside architectural features to provide ambient lighting and vertical structure. The warm metallic finish contrasts effectively against dark painted panelling or neutral plastered walls.

Dust the brass framework and glass panels regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes, which can remove the natural patina or strip protective lacquer layers.
