For Sale by AC Silver
Description

A stunning, fine and impressive antique 3.05 carat opal and 0.32 carat diamond, 9 carat yellow gold and platinum set pendant; part of our Edwardian jewellery collection.

This stunning, fine and impressive antique Edwardian pendant has been crafted in 9ct yellow gold with platinum settings.

The necklace features a stunning 9ct yellow gold collet set 3.05ct oval cabochon cut opal.

The feature opal is surmounted with a curvilinear array of seven graduating collet set diamonds, in a combination of Old European and eight cuts.

The finely crafted pendant suspends from a contemporary 18' yellow gold chain via a trefoil-shaped bale to the upper border of the design ornamented with four further diamonds; the chain secures to the reverse with a conventional spring-loaded bolt ring fastening.

This simple opal pendant has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 9ct and platinum.

This impressive antique 1930's pendant is supplied with an IDGL diamond and gemstone grading report card.

This Edwardian opal pendant in yellow gold combines the opal's shifting play of colour with the warmth of its gold setting. Its elegant design reflects the refined character of the Edwardian period, creating a piece with both decorative beauty and historical appeal. Particularly suited to milestone birthdays, anniversaries, or meaningful celebrations, it also offers enduring charm as a distinctive heirloom piece.

Images do not always reflect the true colour and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds. The video however provides a truer representation of the actual colour and showcases each stone.

Condition

This impressive gemstone pendant is exceptional quality, set with a stunning opal displaying a scintillating play of colour and presence; the opal bears predominantly desirable red overtones.

The high colour graded diamond displays a fine white colour and brilliance.

This antique opal pendant is an exceptional gauge of gold and platinum, and is in exceptional condition.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine example of antique opal jewellery.

This Edwardian pendant dates to circa 1910 and belongs to the necklaces and pendants object type. The piece is made of 9ct yellow gold and platinum set with an oval cabochon opal and diamonds. The central opal displays multicolour tones with prominent red overtones, secured in a yellow gold rim and surmounted by a millegrain diamond crest and an articulated trefoil-shaped pendant bale. The jewellery piece measures 0.401 cm high, 1.43 cm wide, and 48.42 cm deep. It is designed to be worn around the neck suspended from a chain, serving as a decorative ornament for personal wear on daily occasions or celebrations.

Edwardian jewellery from the early twentieth century often features delicate, garland-style motifs, millegrain border details, and a combination of precious gemstones set in gold or platinum.

Pendants from this era commonly utilise natural opal cabochons paired with old-cut diamonds, mounted in yellow gold settings often topped with platinum or silver to highlight the brightness of the stones.

Authentic pieces generally show precise millegrain craftsmanship, period-appropriate gemstone cuts such as rose or single cuts, and historical hallmarks indicating gold purity.

An antique pendant can be suspended from a simple gold chain to serve as a subtle focal point against neutral clothing or layered with modern chains for an eclectic look.

Opals require gentle care; avoid exposure to water, extreme temperatures, direct heat, and chemicals. Clean with a soft, dry cloth and store separately from harder gemstones to prevent scratching.
