This Chinese export silver spoon originates from the 1900 period and belongs to the gentleman's library design vibe. Modelled in solid silver with a polished silver finish, the piece features an oval bowl and a chased handle decorated with a sculpted dragon motif winding towards the tip. The silver surface shows light surface polish and reflection across the bowl alongside textured detailing on the handle. Measuring 19.5 cm in length, the spoon weighs 71 grams and bears hallmarks reading TEH LING STERLING 935. Today, this spoon serves as a decorative accessory displayed on a sideboard top in a home. The item functions well within a collection of antique silverware or as a cabinet display piece in a study or library. Its solid construction allows for safe handling and placement among other historic metalware objects on a flat surface.

Chinese export silver refers to silver items produced in China from the late 18th to mid-20th century specifically for export to Western markets, often featuring traditional Chinese decorative motifs combined with Western form factors.

These items were typically crafted from high-grade silver, often close to or exceeding sterling purity, utilising techniques such as chasing, embossing, and hand-engraving to create detailed relief patterns.

Authentic pieces frequently bear makers marks or artisan chops in Chinese characters alongside pseudo-hallmarks or silver fineness stamps like 90 or STERLING. High-relief craftsmanship and specific period motifs like dragons or bamboo are key features.

Antique silver spoons can be displayed in glass-fronted cabinets, framed as part of a shadow-box wall display, or integrated into table settings alongside contemporary flatware for an eclectic contrast.

Clean gently using a soft cloth and a specialised silver polish formulated to remove tarnish without stripping fine chasing details. Avoid harsh chemicals and store in a low-humidity environment wrapped in acid-free tissue or tarnish-resistant cloth.
