This Edwardian solid sterling silver novelty cream jug takes the form of a standing cow, dating from around 1900. Finished in a polished silver tone with chased facial details and long eyelashes around the eyes, it has a hollow cast body supported on four slender legs with pointed hooves, an open mouth spout, a loop tail handle that doubles as the pourer's support, and an udder beneath. A hinged lid decorated with floral motifs sits on the back. The piece measures 14.6 cm long by 4.6 cm wide by 10 cm tall, weighing 140 grams. It fits well on a sideboard top in an English Country House setting, serving as a functional cream jug for afternoon tea or as a decorative display item in a dining room or living space.

Silver cow creamers originated in the 18th century, popularised by silversmith John Schuppe, and remained a popular novelty tableware item through the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

These creamers are typically crafted from sterling silver using casting and chasing techniques, featuring a hollow body with a hinged back lid and a looped tail serving as a handle.

Authentic pieces display official silver hallmarks indicating the purity, assay office, maker, and date letter, along with hand-chased decorative detailing on the hinged lid and body.

A silver cow creamer functions as a decorative accent when displayed on a dining room sideboard, open kitchen shelving, or inside a curated glass cabinet.

Regular gentle polishing with a soft cloth and specialized silver polish prevents tarnish build-up, while hand washing in warm water ensures safety without causing surface abrasion.
