This Arts and Crafts pendant lighting fixture dates from 1900 and exemplifies the English Country House style. The piece comprises a planished copper construction paired with leaded stained-glass panels in shades of green, amber and clear, all exhibiting a wonderful dark patination across the metal surfaces. Visible details include a floral ceiling rose shaped like a blossom, a suspension chain connected by a ring, and a pyramidal canopy over a four-sided tapering lantern body. The internal metal strap bears an illegible stamped patent mark. A newly fitted silk braid cord connects to the restored brass bulb holder inside. The total height measures 56 cm including the adjustable chain. Homeowners can install this hanging lantern in an entryway, hallway, or above a dining table to provide atmospheric illumination while adding period character to domestic interiors.

Arts & Crafts lighting features hand-crafted metalwork, simple geometric forms, and organic inspired motifs. Originating in late 19th-century Britain, the movement prioritised hand craftsmanship and functional design over mass factory production.

These lanterns were typically constructed using sheet copper, brass, or wrought iron alongside leaded stained glass or opalescent glass panels. Metals were frequently planished or hammered by hand to showcase the craftsmans process.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-hammered tooling marks, visible riveted joints, natural copper oxidisation, and hand-cut textured glass. Modern reproductions often show uniform machine-stamped surfaces and modern electrical fittings.

Position the fixture in a hallway, entryway, or over a kitchen dining island to create a focused point of illumination. The warm tones of hand-worked copper and stained glass complement both period properties and contemporary schemes.

Dust metal and glass surfaces regularly using a clean, soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes that strip original surface patina, and wipe glass panels gently with a damp cloth if necessary.
