This Arts and Crafts standard lamp, made by Arthur Reynolds in 1950, follows the Cotswold School tradition in solid oak. The piece has a medium brown timber with visible wood grain, featuring a faceted stem that tapers towards the top and a matching octagonal base, finished with a brass light socket at the summit. Surface wear is present on the base, while the electrical wiring remains in working order. Dimensions measure 135 cm high, 35 cm wide, and 35 cm deep. Position this floor lamp at the end of a sofa to bring a classic English Country House aesthetic to a living room, study, or reading corner. The straightforward design complements traditional and rustic interior schemes while providing practical upward illumination for evening tasks or general room ambience.

Originating in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the Cotswold School was a branch of the Arts and Crafts movement focused on unpretentious craftsmanship, native timber, and simple functional forms.

These lamps are predominantly crafted from solid British hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or chestnut, often paired with simple brass electrical fittings.

Authentic pieces display hand-planed timber surfaces, exposed joinery, octagonal or chamfered detailing, and subtle regional maker silhouettes.

Position the lamp beside a reading armchair or inside a quiet alcove, completing the look with a neutral linen or parchment shade to complement the timber grain.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a thin coat of natural beeswax polish annually while keeping away from direct heat sources.
