Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This set of four French wall lights dates from the 1930 period and exemplifies the French Chateau style. Each fixture combines a brass frame with an antique gold finish, paired with glass and crystal elements. The design incorporates twin candle arms, draped crystal garlands, teardrop pendants, and a gilded leaf backplate. The visual details include candle-style bulb covers, beaded crystal strands looping across the front, and faceted hanging drops suspended from the arms and top sections. Each sconce measures 43 cm high, 33 cm wide, and 19 cm deep. In a modern interior, these wall sconces suit narrow wall spaces in a living room, hallway, or bedroom. They mount directly onto vertical surfaces to provide ambient illumination alongside decorative sparkle.

FAQs

Originating in 18th-century France, wall sconces, known as appliques, were developed to magnify candlelight using cut crystal pendants and polished metal backplates, becoming essential fixtures in chateaux and formal townhouses.

Traditional French wall lights were predominantly crafted from cast brass, bronze, or gilded metal, embellished with hand-cut lead crystal or moulded glass drops, beads, and drip pans.

Authentic period pieces often exhibit hand-formed metal frames, irregular hand-cut crystal facets, original wire connections between crystals, and natural oxidisation or patination near joints.

Mount these sconces in pairs flanking a mantelpiece, artwork, or decorative mirror to create symmetry and introduce ambient illumination to dining rooms, hallways, or reception spaces.

Clean crystal elements using a soft lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water and mild soap, avoid harsh chemical sprays on gilded metal, and ensure electrical wiring is periodically checked by a qualified professional.
