Vintage Pearl and 0.12ct Diamond 10ct White Gold Cocktail Ring Circa 1950

1940 - 1960
For Sale by AC Silver
Description

A fine and impressive vintage 1950s cultured pearl and 0.12 carat diamond, 10 carat white gold twist design cocktail ring; part of our diverse vintage jewellery and estate jewelry collections.

This fine and impressive pearl and diamond ring has been crafted in 10ct white gold.

The pierced decorated, twist design is ornamented with two 9.35mm cultured pearls, set diagonally within scalloped edged, fluted mounts.

The shaped, millegrain decorated twist design setting is embellished with six pavé set and two individually collet set eight-cut diamonds, totalling 0.12ct.

The subtly elevated shoulders blend seamlessly with the plain ring shank.

This vintage 1950s dress ring has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 10ct gold.

The ring is supplied with an IDGL diamond and gemstone grading report card.

This pearl and diamond cocktail ring reflects the refined femininity of post-war jewellery design, where fluid curves, pearl accents, and subtle diamond sparkle dominated cocktail fashion. Crafted in 10ct white gold, it provides a durable and bright monochromatic foundation that emphasises the lustre of the pearls and distinctive vintage character. Its graceful design and refined presence make it particularly suited to milestone birthdays, anniversaries or special occasions, with lasting appeal as an individual heirloom piece.

Images do not always reflect the true colour and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds. The video however provides a truer representation of the actual colour and showcases each stone.

Condition

This vintage cocktail ring is excellent quality, set with impressive cultured pearls displaying fine colour and lustre.

The very well colour matched, high colour and clarity graded diamonds display a fine white colour and brilliance.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine example of pearl jewellery.

This 1950 Mid-Century Modern cocktail ring is made from 10ct white gold, pearls, and diamonds in cream and silver colours. The Toi et moi setting features two cultured pearls, flanked by bypass shoulders decorated with grain-set diamonds, scalloped edges, and a polished shank. Additional visual details include millegrain decoration and a pierced twist design. Today, this piece is worn on the hand as a dress ring for special occasions and anniversaries. The setting measures 1.85 cm in length, 1.50 cm in width, and 1.09 cm in height, with a pearl diameter of 9.35 mm and a total weight of 6.87 grams.

Mid-century cocktail rings were designed as statement pieces, featuring prominent focal points such as pearls, large gemstones, and dynamic crossover or bypass settings. The era favoured white metals, fluid architectural curves, and small accent diamonds to highlight the central feature.

Rings from this period commonly combined cultured saltwater or freshwater pearls with diamond accents set in white gold, platinum, or yellow gold. Settings frequently featured millegrain detailing, grain-set accent stones, and sculptural sweeping shoulders.

Authentic mid-century pieces generally bear period hallmark stamps for metal purity, exhibit hand-finishing techniques like millegraining, and feature cultured pearls with smooth surfaces and distinct overtone lusters set in bypass or multi-tier arrangements.

A double-pearl cocktail ring can serve as a standalone focal piece paired with tailored eveningwear or minimalist modern suiting. Its curved silhouette pairs well with simple, understated manicures and non-competing metal bangles.

Pearls require delicate handling as organic gems sensitive to chemicals, hairsprays, and perfumes. Clean gently using a dry or slightly damp soft microfibre cloth, avoid submersing in ultrasonic cleaners, and store individually in a fabric pouch to prevent scratching.
