This Victorian solid sterling silver tea caddy spoon dates from 1849 and originates from London, bearing the maker's mark WRS. The piece is finished in a bright silver colour with a polished reflective surface. Particular details visible include a broad shovel-shaped bowl, a fiddle pattern stem with moulded borders, and an engraved family crest depicting winged motifs at the terminal of the handle. The spoon measures 11 cm long by 5 cm wide and weighs 27 grams. Suitable for modern home use, this caddy spoon makes a practical and decorative addition to a sideboard top or tea service display. It functions traditionally for measuring loose tea leaves into a teapot or caddy. The solid construction and compact proportions allow for easy handling and display within any traditional dining room or kitchen setting.

Tea caddy spoons originated in the late eighteenth century alongside the popularity of loose-leaf tea, designed with short handles to fit inside tea caddies and wide bowls to measure out specific quantities of tea leaves.

Victorian caddy spoons were predominantly manufactured from sterling silver, comprising 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for structural durability, stamped with official British hallmarks.

Authentic pieces feature a complete set of British hallmarks, including the town mark, makers initials, date letter, duty mark, and the lion passant specifying sterling silver purity.

An antique silver caddy spoon can be displayed on a sideboard top inside a glass cloche, mounted in a shadow box frame, or integrated into a decorative tray setting alongside tea ceremonial items.

To preserve sterling silver, clean gently using a soft cotton cloth and specialised silver polish, avoiding abrasive cleaners or prolonged immersion in water to prevent deep tarnishing and surface micro-scratches.
