This pair of table lamps dates from circa 1900 and follows the early Gothic style. The pieces are formed from cast brass with a polished gold finish, paired with pleated neutral fabric shades. Each lamp stands on an openwork base with decorated feet, rising via a knopped columnar shaft decorated with Gothic tracery and mouldings. The overall height reaches 80 cm, with the base measuring 45 cm high and the shades spanning 43 cm wide. Suitable for placement on a sideboard top or side table, these lamps bring period illumination to living rooms, studies, or hallways. The wiring uses fabric-covered cable, and the metal surfaces have a protective lacquer finish. The construction remains in original used condition with all decorative elements intact.

FAQs

Gothic Revival table lamps feature architectural motifs adapted from medieval European design, including knopped shafts, pointed arches, foliate capitals, and intricate openwork tracery.

Lighting from this era is typically crafted from heavy cast brass, bronze, or iron, often paired with woven fabric, pleated silk, or frosted glass shades.

Authentic pieces demonstrate heavy cast metal construction, crisp hand-chased ornamentation, seam lines consistent with historical casting methods, and natural patination within recessed details.

Positioning a pair symmetrically on a modern sideboard, console table, or desk provides strong geometric balance, combining warm metallic texture with contemporary clean lines.

Dust the metalwork regularly with a soft, dry cloth. To maintain brightness, apply a non-abrasive metal polish sparingly while taking care to avoid electrical fittings and fabric shades.
