These Victorian sugar tongs are made from solid sterling silver with a reflective silver finish. The piece takes the form of a pair of spring-loaded tongs featuring a plain Fiddle pattern handle, smooth shoulders, and spoon-shaped gripping ends that join at a curved spring bow at the back. Visible surface characteristics include subtle light reflections along the polished metal shafts, minor surface scuffs, and slight tonal variations in the metal. The length measures 15.8 cm. Such a functional item serves well on a sideboard top or drinks table in a traditional dining room or living space. One uses these tongs for serving sugar lumps during afternoon tea or for handling small confectionery items during formal gatherings. The solid construction and classic styling bring a touch of traditional heritage to everyday hospitality routines in the home.

Sugar tongs are small metallic utensils designed to pick up and serve sugar cubes or sugar lumps. During the Victorian era, solid silver sugar tongs were standard components of elaborate afternoon tea sets.

Mid-nineteenth-century British and Irish sugar tongs were predominantly forged from sterling silver, which consists of 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for structural durability.

Authentic Irish silver pieces bear official assay office hallmarks stamped into the metal. Dublin silver typically features the crowned harp mark, the Hibernia figure, a date letter, and a makers mark.

Antique silver tongs can be styled alongside modern barware on a drinks trolley, incorporated into contemporary tea trays, or displayed inside glass-fronted dining cabinets.

Silverware should be cleaned using soft microfibre cloths and specialised non-abrasive silver polish to prevent scratching. Storing items in anti-tarnish cloth pouches helps slow down natural oxidisation.
