Description

Arts and Crafts hammered silver 3 handled Tyg by Lambert and Co. The Tyg stands with a bulbous base and has 3 shaped handles. Beautiful proportions and shape. Hallmarked London 1902 Lambert and Co and with the retailers mark Lambert and Co 12 Coventry Street to the underside. Excellent original condition with clear hallmarks Approx weight 195 grams

History

The founder, Francis Lambert, started this business around 1803 and was joined around 1819 by William Rawlings. Together they bought the celebrated company Rundell & Bridge. Both retailers and manufacturers, Lambert’s occupied a magnificent shop in Coventry St, London selling high quality merchandise to the highest circles of society including HM the Queen. Lambert’s specialised in the unique and unconventional; gold and silver plate, old and valuable clocks, and fine jewellery. Francis Lambert died in 1842 and Lambert & Rawlings was continued by Rawlings alone until his death in around 1860. Lambert & Co took over Lambert & Rawlings in 1861 with George Lambert as proprietor. On his death in 1901 he was succeeded by Herbert Lambert.
