FAQs

A French provincial buffet is a traditional wooden storage cabinet crafted in regional France during the 18th century, designed to store linens, dining service items, and household goods.

These cabinets were primarily constructed from solid regional hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or fruitwood, fitted with wrought iron or cast brass hardware including elongated barrel hinges and keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic pieces feature hand-planed timbers, wooden dowel joinery, asymmetrical hand-carved panels, period-appropriate drawer construction, and honest surface wear consistent with age.

Position the piece as a focal point in a dining room, entry hall, or living space, pairing its warm wood tones against neutral walls, contemporary artwork, or minimalist decorative ceramics.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft, dry cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year, while maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources.
