This 18th-century French Provincial buffet is an antique sideboard created in walnut with a warm brown colour, historic treated woodworm, and a natural patina. The construction incorporates two upper drawers fitted with original iron drop handles behind ornate brass-plate escutcheons, positioned above two large cupboard doors with shaped moulded panels. The lower rails display a carved scrolling apron centred with a circular carved medallion, flanked by short cabriole legs at the front. The furniture measures 96 cm high, 137 cm wide, and 63 cm deep. It serves as a practical storage unit for a dining room, living area, or hallway, offering generous surface space for display and enclosed cabinetry for tableware or linens.

A French provincial buffet is a traditional storage cabinet crafted in regional France during the 1700s. These pieces were designed for practical domestic storage, featuring a combination of upper drawers and lower cupboard doors, often decorated with native regional carving styles and moulded panels.

French provincial furniture was primarily constructed from solid regional hardwoods such as walnut, oak, cherry, and fruitwood. Hardware was typically forged from iron, steel, or brass, including long decorative hinge plates and hand-carved keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic pieces display evidence of period hand tools, such as hand-sawn timber marks, hand-carved dovetail joints, and irregular peg construction. Original metalwork will show hand-forged characteristics, and the timber naturally exhibits uneven patination, oxidisation, and shrinkage around joinery over time.

An antique buffet functions as a focal point in a modern dining room, living area, or wide hallway. Balance its warm timber tones and detailed carving by pairing it with neutral wall colours, modern abstract artwork, or contemporary table lamps placed on the top surface.

Dust the wood surface regularly with a dry, soft microfiber cloth. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber and protect the patina, avoiding liquid sprays, harsh chemicals, or placement near direct heat sources.
