This solid sterling silver quaich cup or two-handled bowl originates from the 1950 period in the Arts and Crafts style, bearing hallmarks for London 1959 and the maker's mark for R E Stone. The vessel exhibits a polished metallic silver finish with a planished texture, featuring a scalloped rim and two opposing flat handles with pierced cut-out shapes at the ends. The round bowl has a smooth reflective interior and rests upon a low base, showing clean surfaces with no visible splits or repairs. It measures 14.5 cm across including the handles. In a contemporary home, this piece serves well on a side table, sideboard, or mantelpiece as a decorative display item. It functions practically as a small serving dish for small trinkets or keepsakes in a living room, study, or bedroom. The minimalist design integrates smoothly with modern or traditional interior settings.

A quaich is a traditional Scottish shallow drinking vessel featuring two flat, horizontal handles, historically used for offering a welcoming drink of whisky or spirits.

Planished silver quaichs are hand-hammered using specialized tools, creating subtle faceted indentations across the surface to reflect light and demonstrate artisan metalwork techniques.

Authentication relies on examining official British hallmarks, makers marks, date letters, and silver purity marks such as the lion passant.

A silver quaich serves as a decorative accent on sideboard tops, mantelpieces, or tray arrangements in drinks cabinets to add metallic texture.

Clean gently using a soft silver polishing cloth or mild soapy water, avoiding abrasive chemicals that can wear down planished textures or official hallmarks.
