During the interwar era (19181939), regimental athletic competitions were organized across armed forces to maintain physical fitness and build esprit de corps. Trophies were routinely commissioned from metalwork manufacturers to commemorate victories in boxing, athletics, and marksmanship.

Trophies from this period were predominantly produced using electroplated nickel silver (EPNS), sterling silver, or cast bronze with silver plating. These metal figures were typically mounted on turned hardwoods such as ebony, mahogany, or dark-stained oak.

Authentic military trophies usually feature period-correct hallmarks, makers marks (such as WMF or silversmith symbols), and specific regimental inscriptions. Pantograph or hand-engraved text detailing dates, names, and military units provides clear historical evidence.

Small metal trophies function well as decorative objects on styled bookshelves, mantelpieces, or executive office desks. Grouping them with historical books, brass instruments, or framed botanical prints complements a curated interior aesthetic.

Clean the metal component using a soft cloth and a specialised silver polish, taking care to avoid contact with the wooden base. Dust the timber base with a dry microfibre cloth and apply neutral beeswax sparingly if the wood appears dry.
