This Georgian sterling silver teapot stand dates from 1804 and originates from London, created by makers Duncan Urquhart and Napthali Hart. Formed in an oval shape with a raised border, the polished silver surface displays an engraved Greek key etching alongside a central shield-shaped vacant cartouche framed by a laurel border. The base rests upon four small fluted feet, presenting clear and readable marks on the metal with no holes, dents or splits. Measuring 3 cm high, 14.5 cm wide, and 10 cm deep, this versatile piece transitions easily from a functional teapot stand to a card tray on a sideboard top in a living room, dining room or hallway. It provides a refined decorative surface for displaying small personal items or holding everyday desk accessories in a traditional or contemporary home setting.

A Georgian silver teapot stand is a small, raised silver tray produced in 18th and early 19th-century Britain. It was designed to protect polished wooden dining tables and sideboard surfaces from the heat transferred through metal teapots.

These stands were typically wrought from sterling silver using hand-hammering and casting techniques. They feature an oval or octagonal flat surface supported by small raised feet, frequently decorated with hand-engraved borders and central crests.

Authentic Georgian silver carries British hallmark stamps, including the monarchs profile, a leopards head or anchor town mark, a lion passant standard mark, and a date letter. The presence of hand-engraved motifs and genuine light surface wear also indicates age.

An antique silver teapot stand can be placed on a sideboard or coffee table to hold candles, decanters, or small decorative glassware. Its reflective metallic surface provides a classic contrast against contemporary stone or timber furniture.

Clean the silver periodically using a gentle silver polish applied with a soft cotton cloth to remove tarnish. Avoid abrasive cleaners or dishwasher cleaning to preserve the original surface detail and natural oxidisation around engraved features.
