Tom has lived in the Scottish Highlands since 1968 and now lives within the Cairngorm National Park – where he has been able to study the Red Deer, which he loves sculpting.

He has made models since he was 5 years old, and it is his love of wildlife that inspired him to make sculptures professionally.

As well as sculpting the wildlife of many countries, he has also modelled a wide range of subjects, from sport and countryside figures to almost every breed of dog.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Animalier movement emerged prominently in 19th-century France and continued into the 20th century, focussing on anatomical accuracy and naturalistic depictions of animals. Silver sculptures in this style prioritize realistic fur textures, proportional realism, and detailed bases depicting flora or terrain.

Silver animal figures were typically produced using lost-wax casting or sand casting methods. Master sculptors carved detailed models in wax or clay, which were used to create moulds for molten sterling silver, followed by meticulous hand-chasing to refine fur and facial details.

Authentic British silver pieces feature official assay hallmarks, including a purity mark (such as the lion passant for sterling silver), a town mark indicating where it was tested, a date letter, and a makers mark identifying the silversmith.

A silver stag sculpture functions effectively as a focal point on a mantelpiece, sideboard top, or within a bookshelf arrangement. Layering the cool metallic sheen against natural wood surfaces or dark painted walls creates strong visual contrast.

Dust regularly using a soft horsehair brush to clear intricate textures. Apply a specialist silver polish sparingly with a microfibre cloth to remove tarnish, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive pads that could wear down delicate surface details.
