FAQs

Hanau silver refers to decorative silverware produced in Hanau, Germany, around the late 19th and early 20th centuries, known for recreating historical styles such as Rococo, Renaissance, and Baroque designs.

These boxes were typically crafted from solid silver using techniques such as repousse and chasing to create raised relief patterns and figurative scenes on the cover and sides.

Authentic Hanau items often feature pseudo-hallmarks that imitate historic French, Dutch, or early German town marks alongside specific maker marks from silversmiths based in the region.

A small decorative silver box functions as a textured accent piece on a vanity, office desk, bookshelf, or sideboard top.

Silver should be gently polished with a soft cotton cloth and specialised silver polish, avoiding abrasive materials that could wear down relief details.
