This set of six antique Ottoman solid silver spoons dates to 1900 and exhibits an Ottoman style. Each piece comprises an oval bowl with a gilded interior surface, a twisted stem, and a figural terminal shaped as a small sculpted character. The solid silver construction presents a bright metallic silver finish across the handles, showing minor surface tarnish and age-related wear inside the bowls. The collection has a combined weight of 80 grams and is free from dents, splits, distortions, or repairs. Measuring 10.6 cm in length, these spoons offer practical utility for afternoon tea service or dessert presentation. They sit neatly displayed on a dining room sideboard top or within a gentleman's library cabinet as a decorative accent. Their distinct figural handles and twisted shafts bring historical character to a traditional table setting when serving guests.

FAQs

During the late Ottoman period around 1900, silversmiths produced decorative spoons featuring cast human or symbolic finials and spiralled stems. These items were often crafted for serving coffee, tea, or preserves, reflecting regional metalworking traditions and Ottoman craftsmanship.

These spoons were typically crafted from solid silver alloys, often incorporating cast finials joined to hand-twisted stems. Some examples feature gilded bowls to protect the metal from reactive foods and liquids while adding a contrasting finish.

Authentic pieces from this period generally display Ottoman silver hallmarks, such as the Sahh mark or Tugra stamp, alongside signs of hand-finishing. Look for subtle variations in cast figures, natural age patina, and construction marks along the stem.

Silver spoons can be displayed inside a glass cloche, presented in a framed shadow box, or arranged in a shallow decorative dish on a sideboard top. They also serve as functional accent pieces alongside contemporary tableware during tea or coffee service.

Clean silver items using a soft microfibre cloth and a mild silver polish specifically formulated for fine metals. Avoid harsh chemical dips or abrasive scrubbing, and store them in tarnish-resistant cloth bags in a low-humidity environment.
