Diamond and 18kt White Gold Art Deco Brooch C.1925

1900 - 1920
Description

A dazzing and beautiful 18kt solid white gold bar brooch which is set with three large and brilliantly sparkling old European cut diamonds (VS1-VS2 clarity) and almost clear in colour, (tested as F-G).

.

The three principal diamonds totalling 0.89 carats and there is also a small triangular diamond at the tail of approximately 0.1 carats, the setting in the design of the Ace of Clubs.

.

The fixing pin is straight and strong and has a slide lock. This Art Deco brooch dates from c. 1925 and is in excellent original condition with only very light and fine surface marks consistent with occasional careful use. Valued by a local reputable and well established jeweller at £2,250 and the diamonds graded and reported on by the Word Gemological Institute. The Valuation Certificate and WGI report will be supplied with the brooch.

.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco jewellery, originating in the 1920s and 1930s, is defined by geometric shapes, linear symmetry, and clean architectural lines. Moving away from the soft curves of Art Nouveau, it emphasised white metals, bold contrast, and refined gemstone settings.

Art Deco brooches predominantly featured white metals such as platinum and 18kt white gold, which became popular during this period. These settings were typically accented with diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, and intricate filigree or milgrain detail.

Authentic pieces display period-specific craftsmanship, such as hand-cut diamonds like old European cuts, pin mechanisms appropriate to the era, precise geometric metalwork, and hallmark stamps indicating gold purity or makers marks.

An antique bar brooch can be worn on the lapel of a tailored blazer, fastened to a silk scarf, pinned to the collar of a button-down shirt, or styled as an accent on an evening clutch bag.

Clean gently using warm water, mild soap, and a soft-bristled brush to clear debris behind settings. Store individually in a lined jewellery box to prevent diamonds from scratching other pieces or metals.
