Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian silver snuff box is a small pocket container made from sterling silver during the reign of Kings George I through George IV (17141830). Designed to hold ground tobacco, these boxes were symbols of status and social refinement, frequently featuring elaborate engine turning, bright-cut engraving, and gilded interiors.

These boxes were constructed by hand, using sheet sterling silver shaped and fitted with precise flush hinges to prevent moisture loss. The interiors were often washed with gold gilt to protect the silver from chemical reactions with tobacco.

Authentic British Georgian silver carries a full set of official assay hallmarks stamped by regional offices such as London or Birmingham. These include the monarchs head duty mark, the lion passant for sterling quality, a date letter, and a registered makers mark.

Small antique silver boxes function well as decorative accents on a desk, coffee table, or mantelpiece. They can be displayed individually alongside leather-bound books or grouped with other silver objects to add historical interest to a room.

Gently wipe silver gilt with a soft, dry cotton cloth to remove dust and oils. Avoid harsh silver polishes or abrasive dips on gilded surfaces, as aggressive cleaning can strip away delicate gold leaf layers.
