Salisbury Antiques Centre has dated this Dutch Floral Marquetry Bureau to the 1800s.
The decoration continues throughout the bureau, including the sides, drawer fronts, shaped apron and slender legs.
The fall opens to reveal a fitted interior comprising six small marquetry drawers, pigeonholes and open compartments, above an inset leather writing surface.
Below are two short drawers over a single long drawer, all decorated with floral marquetry and retaining decorative brass handles and escutcheons.
Raised on elegant slender cabriole legs, giving the bureau a particularly graceful and light appearance.
A charming and beautifully decorative example of Dutch marquetry furniture, with extensive inlay throughout and particularly attractive proportions.
Dutch, circa 1800.
Condition: Good antique condition with wear, marks and minor losses commensurate with age and use. The writing surface shows considerable age-related wear and staining, as shown in the photographs.
