Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian storage chests were utilitarian yet refined furniture pieces typically crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut. They feature clean rectangular forms, heavy hinged lids, and dovetail joinery designed for secure domestic storage.

These chests were predominantly constructed using solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over pine frameworks. Iron or brass hardware, including side carrying handles, front drop handles, and mortise locks, were standard functional components.

Authentic Victorian chests feature hand-cut or early machine dovetail joints along the corners, hand-planed backboards, and natural age marks on the wood surface. The hardware often shows patina or hand-finished brass oxidisation consistent with late 19th-century manufacture.

A Victorian mahogany chest functions effectively at the foot of a bed for linen storage or as a central coffee table in a living room. Pairing the dark wood tone with neutral linen upholstery creates a balanced textural contrast in contemporary spaces.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a beeswax polish annually to nourish the timber. Avoid positioning the chest near direct heat sources or in direct sunlight to prevent timber warping and finish bleaching.
