Description

A beautiful antique pendant set with vibrant blue turquoise and a halo of tiny gleaming seed pearls. It looks as though the pendant was made from an older piece of jewellery - the bottom half is a higher carat of gold and, we believe, started out as something else before the top turquoise cabochon and the lovely Etruscan-style bail were added. Reworking jewellery was historically a common practice which enabled ladies to preserve heirloom jewels but keep up with fashions.

SIZE: 3.2 x 1.2cm.

WEIGHT: 2.5g.

MATERIALS: Turquoise, gold. The larger drop tests as 18-carat gold and the top section is at least nine carat.

HALLMARKS/STAMPS: None found.

CONDITION: In excellent antique condition.

ERA: Estimated Victorian (c.1837-1901).
