Rare Pair of Regency Mahogany Library Bookcases Attributed to Gillows

Description

Superb rare pair of Regency mahogany library bookcases attributed to Gillows; desirable neat proportions; the top sections of break fronted form with a pair of central astragal glazed doors having finely reeded glazing bars in a diamond pattern, the interiors with adjustable shelves; flanked by narrow cupboards with well figured mahogany panelled doors. The base of one bookcase having a well fitted secretaire drawer with an arrangement of small satinwood drawers and pigeon holes above a green tooled leather writing surface; the other bookcase having a full width drawer disguised as three dummy drawers with a fall front revealing a large compartment; above the cupboard base of four well figured panelled doors, raised on original bun feet. The whole of the cabinets with slender ebony mouldings, in very well figured mahogany having an excellent rich colour and patina.
