Antique Silver Pocket Watch Albert Chain, 1906

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique silver pocket watch albert chain, 1906.

The chain measures 33cm long including the T-bar and the chain. The T-bar and the clasp both have hallmarks for Birmingham 1906 with a maker’s mark for the Birmingham silversmith Henry Allday & Son.

Each of the links has the lion silver mark, and one has the Henry Allday maker’s mark so we can be sure that all of the chain components are original to each other.

The watch comes with a silver fob, 28mm x 32mm high excluding the loops. Nice rose gold wash detailing to the front of the fob. Hallmarks to the back for Birmingham 1911, with a maker’s mark for a Birmingham manufacturing jeweller, William Hair Haseler. The fob is free from any inscriptions.

Total weight 53g.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Named after Prince Albert, an Albert chain is a functional item of jewellery designed to secure a pocket watch to a waistcoat or jacket, featuring a T-bar at one end and a swivel clasp at the other.

Edwardian watch chains were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, yellow gold, or rose gold, frequently incorporating hallmarked curb links, T-bars, and decorative suspended fobs.

Authentic pieces generally bear British hallmark stampings across individual links, the T-bar, and the swivel clasp, indicating silver purity, assay office, and year code.

Modern wearers often drape Albert chains across a waistcoat, loop them into jacket buttonholes, or wear them repurposed as distinct necklaces and multi-wrap bracelets.

Clean gently using a soft microfiber silver polishing cloth, avoiding harsh liquid immersion dips that strip historical oxidation from engraved recessed details.
