Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian rosewood writing desks from the late nineteenth century often feature compact proportions, tiered superstructures with mirrors or small cupboards, and decorative marquetry inlays. These writing tables were crafted primarily for personal correspondence and domestic writing rooms.

Cabinetmakers utilized dense, dark rosewood veneers as a base, set with intricate decorative inlays made from lighter timbers such as boxwood, satinwood, or sycamore. Structural elements often incorporate solid mahogany or oak drawer linings alongside brass hardware and castors.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut marquetry, natural wood grain variation beneath aged varnish, and hand-dovetailed drawer joints. Original brass handles and iron or brass lock mechanisms typically display age-appropriate oxidisation and wear.

Position the desk against a neutral wall to highlight the dark wood contrast, using the upper display cabinets for contemporary glass or ceramics. Pair the piece with a sleek minimalist desk chair or modern task lighting to create a balanced mix of historical and modern design elements.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage or veneer lifting. Dust regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish sparingly along the grain to preserve the timber finish.
