This Edwardian pendant dates to circa 1900 and takes the form of a vertical drop suspended from a fine link chain. The materials comprise an 18k yellow gold bale, 9k gold behind the pearl, silver settings, a near round natural saltwater pearl, a bright and lively old mine cut diamond, and a small rose cut diamond accent. The pearl exhibits a white body with orient overtones and very good lustre, whilst the diamonds sit within blackened silver settings. The chain and bale display a warm yellow gold colour, complemented by the white tones of the pearl and the dark contrast of the silver mountings. The entire drop measures 20.9mm from top to bottom including the bale, and the pearl measures approximately 6.31 x 6.22 x 6.10mm. Today, this necklace is worn as a decorative accessory to complement both everyday attire and formal evening wear. The piece fastens securely around the neck using the included yellow gold chain, positioning the vertical drop centrally on the chest. It suits incorporation into a jewellery collection focused on antique or Edwardian designs, offering a combination of mixed metals and traditional gemstone cuts that integrate easily into contemporary wardrobes.

Pendants from the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, circa 1900, often feature delicate vertical drop compositions incorporating natural pearls and diamonds. These designs emphasize lightness and symmetry, frequently utilizing silver-topped gold settings to enhance the brilliance of the stones.

Jewellery from this period typically combined yellow gold chains and mounts with silver settings for diamonds, alongside natural saltwater pearls. Master jewelers used hand-cutting techniques for diamonds, such as rose cuts or old mine cuts, set into refined bezel or claw mountings.

Authentic pieces exhibit characteristics such as hand-cut diamonds with slight asymmetry, natural pearls with subtle variations in shape and luster, and light surface oxidisation on silver settings. Inspection under magnification often reveals period-appropriate construction methods rather than modern casting marks.

A classic drop pendant pairs well with minimalist contemporary attire, such as structured tailoring or open collar silk shirts, allowing the historical piece to act as a focal point. It can also be layered with contemporary fine gold chains of varying lengths for a textured aesthetic.

Natural pearls require gentle care and should be wiped with a soft, damp cloth after wear, avoiding chemical cleaners, ultrasonic devices, or excess moisture. Store the item flat in a fabric-lined box away from direct heat and abrasive surfaces to protect both organic pearls and metal mountings.
