Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian Queen Anne style bureau bookcase employs warm brown walnut and burr walnut timbers, complemented by brass keyhole escutcheons and drop-handle pulls on the drawer fronts. The upper section displays a double-domed cornice above a pair of arched glazed doors opening to shelving, sitting atop a fall-front writing surface that conceals fitted interior compartments. Below this, three graduated drawers with shaped fronts sit above cabriole legs terminating in carved feet. Measuring 197 cm high, 75 cm wide and 50 cm deep, the piece provides functional display and writing storage. It suits placement in a study, library or drawing room as a practical workstation and decorative cabinet for books and papers.

FAQs

A Queen Anne style bureau bookcase is a dual-section piece of furniture that combines a slant-front writing desk at the base with a tall glazed display cabinet above. Originating in early eighteenth-century Britain, this style is characterised by graceful proportions, double-domed cornices, cabriole legs, and rich walnut veneers.

These cabinets are predominantly constructed using walnut and highly figured burr walnut veneers, often detailing herringbone or feather crossbanding. The upper cabinet features glazed glass panel doors, while the interior structure typically utilises oak or pine as secondary drawer lining timber.

Key identification hallmarks include double-arched or double-domed pediments, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, shaped drawer fronts, and cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. Original brass hardware generally displays teardrop pulls or pierced backplates.

A vertical bureau bookcase serves as an architectural statement in a study, hallway, or living room. The glazed upper section provides space for displaying collections of porcelain or bound books, while the fall-front desk section offers functional, concealable work area.

Maintain walnut furniture by placing it away from direct sunlight and radiators to avoid veneer shrinkage or fading. Dust regularly with a dry lint-free cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish annually to protect the wood finish.
