Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Victorian era, copper lanterns were widely installed across urban streets and estate entrances due to coppers natural resistance to atmospheric corrosion. Originally designed for gas illumination, many were later converted to electricity while retaining their classic tapered glass profile and tiered vents.

Period street lanterns are typically constructed from sheet copper, brass fittings, and wrought iron mountings, joined with hand-soldered seams. The enclosure uses individual glass panes secured by copper glazing tabs or channels to withstand exterior weather conditions.

Authentic period lanterns feature hand-soldered seams, slight irregularities in sheet copper thickness, and natural patination rather than sprayed synthetic finishes. Original brass or iron mounting collars and internal gas pipe entry points also indicate historic production.

Antique lanterns can be mounted on masonry piers, installed atop gate posts, or fixed to exterior brickwork flanking an entrance to create a structural focal point. Rewired examples are also incorporated into traditional or industrial interior lighting schemes.

To preserve the natural oxidisation and surface patina, clean the metal with a dry soft cloth rather than abrasive polishing compounds. Glass panes should be cleaned with a mild spray cleaner, avoiding excess moisture near internal electrical fittings.
