This vintage French lampshade from circa 1930 exemplifies the French Country style. Made from white opaque opaline glass, the shade displays a high-gloss finish with a distinctive emerald green glass edge along the scalloped border. The piece incorporates deep crimped fluting and a pronounced frilled rim that creates a textured, floral form around the central dome. Mounted at the top is an original brass gallery and threaded fixture with a stepped metallic collar. The materials combine smooth milk glass with aged brass hardware showing natural metallic patination. Measuring 12 cm high by 30 cm wide and 30 cm deep, the shade occupies a compact footprint suited for antique lighting restorations. It is designed to be wired onto a compatible ceiling pendant or lamp base to provide overhead illumination in a domestic interior.

These lampshades typically feature a central dome crafted from opaque white or opaline glass that flaring outwards into crimped or ruffled edges. A hallmark of early 20th-century French production, they often feature a fine thread of contrasting coloured glass melted directly along the outer perimeter rim.

They were constructed from hand-blown opaline or milk glass, with coloured glass rims fused during the forming process. The top aperture is usually fitted with an unthreaded brass gallery mount designed to attach to suspended cord set fixtures.

Detach the brass gallery before washing the glass in lukewarm water with a mild liquid soap. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners and abrasive cloths to protect any surface patination on the metal components and preserve the glass.

These shades are frequently suspended as single drop pendants above side tables and hallway spaces, or installed in pairs over kitchen islands. Their white glass diffuses bulb glare effectively while adding textural silhouette detail.

Authentic period shades show subtle variation in the hand-frilled crimping and thickness of the rim glass. They feature plain smooth neck openings held by vintage brass galleries rather than modern screw-threaded fitments.
