Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An oak coffer is a traditional wooden storage chest featuring a hinged lid and panelled sides. Historically used across Europe from the medieval period onward, these vessels provided secure storage for linens, clothing, and household valuables.

Traditional coffers utilize mortise and tenon joinery secured with wooden pegs. The frame and panel construction allows the solid oak timber to expand and contract with environmental changes without splitting the wood.

Authentic pieces feature signs of hand-planed timber, irregular wooden pegs, and hand-carved decorative motifs such as rosettes or chip carving. Historical wear on the underside, early iron strap hinges, and natural wood shrinkage are additional indicators of age.

An oak coffer works well positioned at the foot of a bed, within a hallway as a bench seat, or in a living room as a low coffee table. Combining dark oak timber with modern linen textiles and minimalist decorative objects creates balanced visual contrast.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a coat of clear beeswax once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and damp areas to preserve the structural integrity of the timber.
