Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, boxed liqueur glass sets were crafted for serving post-dinner digestifs and spirits. Housed in custom fitted presentation cases lined with fabric, these sets protected delicate hand-blown glassware during transport and provided a formal presentation for domestic entertaining.

The glasses were typically blown from fine clear glass or lead crystal and decorated with hand-applied gold leaf or enamel gilding. The accompanying cases were constructed from wood, covered in leather, faux leather, or paperette, and padded internally with silk, satin, or velvet.

Authentic period stemware often shows subtle irregularities from hand-blowing, such as slight variations in stem height or faint pontil marks at the base. Genuine gold gilding will demonstrate gentle rubbing or oxidisation in areas of frequent contact, while the original fitted case will display age-appropriate wear to the clasp, hinges, and textile lining.

Position the presentation case in an open position on top of a dining room sideboard, drinks cabinet, or bar cart. The contrast between the dark structured exterior box and the silk interior provides visual depth, allowing the gilt glassware to catch light in entertaining areas.

Gilded stemware should be washed gently by hand in lukewarm water using a mild detergent, avoiding hot water and abrasive sponges that could strip the gilding. Dishwashers must be avoided entirely, and the original case should be kept in a dry environment to prevent moisture damage to the silk lining.
