A stunning pair of antique Swedish satin birch Biedermeier stools. They were recently imported from Sweden, they date from around the 1850-1870 period.

They are of outstanding quality, with a fine and elegant design. They sit on beautifully shaped and slender sabre shaped legs, with lovely turned handles and the top edges. They would be perfect as window seats, at the end of a bed or in various settings around the home.

We have had them stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, and fully re-upholstered in a cream cotton fabric. The condition is excellent for their age.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Originating in the early 19th century, Swedish Biedermeier furniture adapts Neoclassical forms into clean, functional designs featuring light-coloured native timbers such as satin birch and blonde maple.

Authentic pieces traditionally feature solid or veneered satin birch timber framework paired with webbed upholstery and plain woven linen or cotton fabric coverings.

Look for distinct shimmering figure patterns in the wood grain, hand-carved joinery, gently swept sabre legs, and subtly turned timber accents along the handles or rails.

Position these stools symmetrically at the foot of a bed, within a bay window alcove, or as versatile accent seating flanking a fireplace.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish annually, keeping the timber away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent drying or discolouration.
