This George V sterling silver basket or dish dates to the George V period and follows an English Country House design vibe. The oval silver piece features a deep pierced body with a lattice pattern, intricate pierced fretwork, scrollwork, a wavy-edged border depicting grapes, leaves, and vines, and a pierced foot decorated with grapes and visible hallmarks. It has a shiny metallic silver colour and a smooth polished finish with crisp openwork cutouts throughout the metal body. Measuring 12.8 cms in height, 28.2 cms in length, and 20.5 cms in width, the dish is ideal for displaying fruit or serving as a decorative sideboard top feature in a dining room or living space today. The traditional silver tableware brings a refined touch to modern interior settings while retaining its historical English craftsmanship.

George V sterling silver baskets, produced in the early 20th century, frequently feature complex reticulated or hand-pierced metalwork, drawing stylistic elements from earlier 18th-century Neoclassical and Rococo designs.

These vessels were crafted from solid sterling silver containing 92.5 percent silver content, with intricate lattice work hand-punched or cut, paired with cast borders applied to the rim and base.

Authentic British silver items carry a distinct set of hallmarks stamped into the metal, including the lion passant denoting sterling purity, an assay office symbol, a specific date letter, and a registered makers mark.

A pierced sterling silver basket serves as an elegant focal point when placed on a dining table or sideboard, functioning either as an empty decorative statement or as a container for fruit.

Maintain sterling silver by polishing gently with a soft cloth and a specialized silver cream, ensuring delicate chased details and piercing remain free from abrasive residue or moisture build-up.
