Antique Victorian 15ct Gold Locket

19th century
Description

Beautiful Antique Victorian 15ct gold pearl locket with blue enamel. This is a really lovely quality circular locket which measures 22mm by 17mm including the bale. The locket is highly decorated with a woven interlocking design of blue enamel strands and small seed pearls. It is a very pretty piece of antique jewellery with a locket compartment at the back set with hairwork. The locket is in fantastic original condition with no losses to the enamel and only minor wear in accordance with age. No hallmarks but testing as 15ct gold. It is a small sized locket and I have shown it next to a pound coin to show that is a bit smaller than a pound coin. The locket compartment has been untouched. It is stiff but if you wanted to use the locket and replace it with a photo, a jeweller should be able to remove the locket back and replace the hairwork. The bale hole is about 2mm by 3mm wide, again a good jeweller can help to thread a chain through. The total weight is 4.4g

Photographs are ZOOMED with x5 magnification. SO Please Check Sizes And Weights before purchasing as JEWELLERY IMAGES ARE ENLARGED!! Dark areas are reflections on the gold.

BUY WITH CONFIDENCE: I try to accurately describe my items. I never knowingly mis-sell any item, so please read the description carefully. All items are checked by a professional Jeweller for authenticity; however no certificates are provided. If for any reason the item is found not to be genuine or as described a full refund will be given. So please buy with confidence.

Your jewellery will come in a modern gift box and not necessarily the one in the photograph.

Please also note that Antique and Vintage items will show some signs of wear commensurate with age.

Returns are accepted however buyer must pay return postage.

Finally - by purchasing a Used /Vintage/ Antique ring you are recycling a beautiful piece of jewellery and gemstone. In buying a ring which has been in circulation for this long is the most environmentally ethical way to purchase jewellery. Purchasing antique jewellery allows you to both support smaller local businesses and but encouraging the reuse of the vast amount of timeless jewels that are already in circulation and reduces the demand for further stripping of our planets resources.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian enamel jewellery reached peak popularity during the mid-to-late nineteenth century, often incorporating symbolic colour choices and sentimental designs. Blue enamel was frequently associated with devotion and loyalty, making it a favoured choice for lockets and keepsake pendants.

Victorian lockets were commonly crafted from carat gold standards such as 15ct or 18ct, alongside vitreous enamel, split pearls, and gemstones. Intricate hand-engraving and guilloche enamelling techniques were frequently employed by goldsmiths of the era.

Authentic pieces often bear specific British hallmarks or fineness stamps, such as 15ct gold which was used between 1854 and 1932. Additionally, original vitreous enamel shows hand-applied depth, and seed pearls are typically split and set individually into carved recesses.

Victorian pendants are commonly worn on modern fine gold chains or layered alongside contemporary necklaces. The distinct colour palette allows them to serve as a focal point against neutral or monochrome outfits.

Enamel and pearls require gentle care to prevent surface damage. Moisture, perfumes, and chemical cleaners should be avoided, and the surface should be wiped clean with a soft, dry cloth before storing the item in a soft pouch.
