A lovely antique wishbone and chick brooch in solid nine-carat gold. The little chick has a tiny twinkling diamond eye. Wishbones were very popular good luck symbols during the late Victorian to Edwardian period and often paired with chicks to represent a new beginning.
SIZE: Approximately 4 x 2cm.
WEIGHT: 2.7g.
MATERIALS: Nine-carat (375) gold, diamond.
HALLMARKS/STAMPS: Stamped S&E 9CT. Possibly Smith & Ewen, a well regarded jewellery firm working out of Birmingham during the late Victorian and Edwardian period.
CONDITION: In excellent antique condition with the clasp and hinge in good working order.
ERA: Estimated late Victorian/Edwardian (c.late 1800s-1914).
