Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A curule or X-frame dressing stool is a seating design originating from classical antiquity, characterized by crossed, curved legs forming an X-shape. Reinterpreted during the Neoclassical, Regency, and Victorian periods, these light accent seats were frequently placed in dressing rooms and bedrooms.

Late 19th-century dressing stools were predominantly constructed from fine hardwoods such as satinwood, mahogany, or rosewood. Seats were commonly fitted with hand-woven cane, needlepoint tapestry, or padded upholstery to combine light structural form with utility.

Authentic late Victorian satinwood displays a fine, dense grain with a natural golden hue that darkens evenly over time. Construction indicators include hand-cut joinery, pegged frame joints, and hand-woven split cane rather than synthetic or machine-woven mesh.

An antique satinwood stool functions effectively at the foot of a bed, within a bay window, or alongside a contemporary dressing table. Its warm timber tones pair well with neutral upholstery, natural linen, and understated brass fixtures.

To preserve satinwood, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply beeswax sparingly along the grain. Keep woven cane seats away from direct heat sources to prevent brittleness, and lightly mist the underside with water occasionally to maintain elasticity.
