Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian railway hanging lanterns were heavy-duty utilitarian light fixtures produced during the nineteenth century to illuminate railway stations, carriages, and platform passages. Characterised by robust construction and functional forms, these fixtures often incorporated spun copper bodies and thick glass globes to withstand public use.

Authentic period light fixtures from this era were primarily fabricated using heavy-gauge spun copper, brass fittings, and mouth-blown or moulded clear glass. The use of solid copper provided natural weather resistance and durability, while iron or chain suspensions secured the fixtures overhead.

Original period examples feature hand-loomed or hand-spun metal joins, authentic age-related patination or oxidisation, and cast metal fittings rather than modern stamped parts. Look for structural weight, evidence of historical conversion from gas or oil to electricity, and maker marks or railway company stampings on the copper casing.

Industrial lighting fixtures serve as effective focal points when suspended over kitchen islands, dining tables, or within entrance hallways. The warm tones of aged copper create strong contrast against modern neutral colour palettes, minimalist cabinetry, or exposed brickwork.

Clean the glass shade periodically with a soft cloth and mild glass cleaner, ensuring electrical connections remain dry. The copper surface should be lightly dusted with a dry microfibre cloth; avoid harsh chemical abrasives or metal polishes if retaining the natural aged patina is desired.
