Antique William IV Rosewood Open Bookcase Marble Top Attributed Gillows

An antique William IV (1830–1837) rosewood carved open bookcase, with a Carrara marble top, attributed to Gillows.
 
The bookcase has projecting rounded (canted) corners, giving it a strong and elegant profile. The top is an impressive 30 mm thick white Carrara marble, with contrasting dark veining.
 
The adjustable shelves are fitted with tooled leather linings traditionally used to help protect books from dust settling on the upper edges.
 
The frieze is finely carved, and the piece features boldly carved corbels terminating above distinctive paw feet.
