A Pair of Italian Baroque, 18th Century Giltwood Altar Candlesticks, 78cm tall.An impressive pair of 78cm tall, 18th century Italian Baroque candlesticks, probably alter candlesticks of excellent scale. Hand carved limewood with a gesso plaster application and gilding, the original gilding will have suffered over time and later painted, probably around 1900, at the time they were adapted to lamps, albeit all light fittings are now removed but could easily become lamps again.A superbly stylish antique pair, they do show a timeworn appearance, these are currently in our workshop being tightened at any joints, these columns are usually 2 sections , gently conserved but otherwise left as they are, structurally stable and complete.We may end listing and then consign to be reinstated as lamps, until then available as they are.The lamps do have some losses to the paint and distress which authenticates age, some may choose to overpaint, others to scrape back, or simply left to ...
