Large Victorian Gold And Silver Pique Cross Crucifix Brooch

£185    $248    €216
This fantastic imposing brooch is an example of Victorian piqué d''or - an intricate 19th century decorative technique developed in France where gold and/or sterling silver is inlaid into a material such as tortoiseshell.

SIZE: Approximately 6.8 x 3.4cm.

WEIGHT: 8.3g.

MATERIALS: Gold, silver, shell.

HALLMARKS/STAMPS: None.

CONDITION: The brooch has clearly been sturdily mended; from the front it''s not very noticeable, there are glue marks at the back and also glue where the clasp has been attached - there is a drill hole at the top so it looks as though the piece may have long ago been converted to a brooch from a pendant. We''ve found no chips or cracks and all the tiny gold and silver wires are intact.

ERA: Early Victorian c.1860s.

Antique and vintage boxes photographed are for display only and are not included unless stated in the description.
