1897 Hallmarked Victorian 15ct Gold Diamond Star Puffy Heart Pendant

19th century
For Sale by Corvidae Antique
Description

This Victorian gold heart pendant is the most beautiful rich high-carat colour with a gorgeous satiny finish. The heart contains a rose-cut diamond set into a crisply-incised star setting. Note this is a pendant and not a locket, it doesn't open.

SIZE: 1.3 x 1.5cm, not including the bail. The diamond is approximately 1.8mm diameter.

WEIGHT: 1.7g.

MATERIALS: Diamond, 15-carat (625) gold. Fifteen-carat gold pieces are not overly common (in the UK only really used between 1854 and 1932) and this fineness was generally used in high quality pieces.

HALLMARKS/STAMPS: Hallmarked for 15-carat gold, Chester 1897.

CONDITION: The pendant is in very good antique condition with normal surface wear for a piece of its age. There are two very tiny dents on the back if you look very closely.

ERA: Victorian, 1897.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Late Victorian heart pendants, popularised during the late 1800s, often symbolised love and devotion, frequently featuring puffed hollow gold forms decorated with starburst-set gemstones.

Victorian jewellery frequently utilised 15ct yellow gold, a standard gold purity in Britain from 1854 to 1932, along with hand-set diamonds or seed pearls.

Authentic pieces often bear British hallmarks indicating gold purity and date letters, alongside hand-engraved starburst settings and period-appropriate bail constructions.

An antique gold heart pendant can be suspended from a fine contemporary gold chain or layered alongside modern gold necklaces for a textured look.

Clean gently using lukewarm water, a mild soapy solution, and a soft-bristled brush, avoiding harsh chemicals to protect the delicate antique gold surface and gemstone setting.
