Description

This is a Georgian, English, hop and barley engraved double series mercury air twist wine glass dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1750.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot commensurate with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.

The glass has an extended rounded funnel shaped bowl measuring 5.7 cm (2.2 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is engraved with a single hop flower and with crossed barley ears to verso and sits on a double series "mercury" air twist stem. The stem ends in a conical foot which measures 7.6 cm (3 inches) in diameter. The glass is 19.5 cm (7.8 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is a bubble in the metal of the foot which has burst leaving a small scar to the underside of the foot.

English lead glass weighing in at 205 g. (~ 7 oz.).
